Visitors in Cyprus may drive using a valid International Driving Licence or their National driving licence, provided it is valid for the particular class of vehicle they want to drive. If a domicile wishes to get a Cyprus driving licence then he must convert his national licence to a Cypriot one or take the driving test. In any way the Cyprus driving licence will cost CYŁ36 for a lifetime, to obtain you need your passport, your valid UK licence, two passport-sized photographs and the fee. (Note a Cyprus licence is valid in the UK) If you ever returned permanently to the UK send your Cyprus Licence with the appropriate form and fee to DVLC in Swansea who will exchange it for a UK licence.

Hiring an ordinary saloon car costs about CYŁ25-35 per day including full cover insurance.

Four lane motorways connect all towns and the airports, and two lane, good surfaced roads connect all towns and villages. Visitors can bring their cars to Cyprus for a period of three months provided the car has a valid registration in its country. Attention must be paid to the fact that driving in Cyprus is on the left side of the road with cars being right-wheeled

As far as car insurance is concerned, Cyprus has signed the Uniform Agreement with the European Economic Area Countries, Switzerland and the members of the Green Card System (with the exception of Turkey, Morocco, Tunisia and Iraq).

At present Premium Unleaded Petrol costs CYŁ0.48 per litre and Diesel CYŁ0.45 per litre.
